He peered down at me from outside the car window, his face taut and tired, briefcase bulging with papers, hair thinning from stress (NOT genetics).

“If I teach you one thing,” he sighed, “DON’T become a lawyer.”

Another day of broken court systems, angry clients, and money-hungry attorneys had sent him over the edge, and he was adamant that his only daughter not sell her soul to the machine of convention.

So I took his advice and ran with it…

All the way through Johns Hopkins’ Writing Seminars program…

And straight into an over-drafted bank account. 

It took one retail job, a stint at the Country Music Hall of Fame, and a cross-country move before my dad’s penchant for persuasion crept back into my blood…
